Harnessing Microgrid Power in Les Anglais, Haiti
On a recent trip to Les Anglais, Haiti, I got to see innovation in action. Thanks to EKo Pwòp, EarthSpark’s micro-utility arm, a new microgrid project has taken shape. This localized energy system is a beacon of progress for areas where setting up a vast grid can be tricky.
But what’s even more inspiring is the collaborative spirit behind this initiative. The Haitian government, alongside international partners, has thrown its weight behind EKo Pwòp’s vision.
In short, Les Anglais is lighting the way, showing how communities, backed by supportive partners, can redefine their energy future.
Illuminating Les Anglais: The Solar Plant’s Reach and Capacity
In the heart of Les Anglais, an impressive solar plant is making waves. Currently, it powers approximately 500 households, and this number is on the rise.
The facility boasts 93Kw of solar panels, harnessing the sun’s energy efficiently. Complementing this setup is a robust 400Kw battery bank, ensuring energy storage and consistent power supply. And for those rare moments when the sun doesn’t shine or during peak demand, there’s a trusty backup in place: a compact diesel generator.
In essence, Les Anglais has combined renewable energy and traditional backup solutions to provide reliable power to its residents.
Innovative Power Distribution in Les Anglais: EarthSpark and SparkMeter’s Smart Solution
EarthSpark, ever at the forefront of energy innovation, has revolutionized power distribution in Les Anglais. Partnering with SparkMeter, they’ve rolled out smart meters that don’t just supply power but also closely monitor its distribution.
But here’s where it gets even more intriguing: payments for this power. Residents have flexible payment options. They can opt for mobile phone credits, a popular and convenient choice, or make in-person payments to staff. In a unique twist, the system operates on a ‘prepaid’ model, where customers buy watts in advance, essentially prepaying for the energy they plan to consume.
This approach not only streamlines power distribution but also empowers residents with choices and transparency in their energy consumption.
I found this video related to this project.
Interesting place. and what size of delco the system has?
